"I feel like Herb Sundays called out to me from the start, as uncool listening is kind of my baseline. These songs are my personal go-to’s, collected over the last 20 years or so and constantly revisited or put on potentially unlistened-to mixes. It feels a little wide open, like the overly emotive mix tape handed off dramatically in the hall to someone way out of your league, made for them with concern and deliberation just because they accidentally smiled at you once." - Fred Thomas
Welcome Season 2 of the Herb Sundays Playlist Series. For those just joining, Herb Sundays is a selection of mixes by people with such exquisite taste, they care not about cred or coolness.
Herb Sundays 15 is an era-spanning lovesick dripper from Fred Thomas, a Michigan performer and songwriter (and producer, mixer, writer, label-runner, zine maker, etc.) who has headed up dozens of bands and projects, among them are beloved indie incarnations like Saturday Looks Good To Me and Failed Flowers on labels such as Polyvinyl, Type, and K Records
I met Fred around 20 years ago, encountering his bands at house parties and him behind the counter at the famed Encore Records in Ann Arbor. We bonded over our mutual love if We Can't Be Stopped by Geto Boys and other Herb sundries.
His enthusiasm is infectious and boundless.
