I have been thinking of this series as a podcast in some ways, and in that spirit, I'm going to give it a small pause to tend to other things and plot out the next batch. "14" is/was my favorite/lucky number and I had the itch, so here's an herbal essence (sounds best on shuffle, to me) including a few songs that have saved me, blasted my neurons in the right directions, and/or were gifts from people I miss.

Big shouts to the 12 other playlisters who've Herbed so far (and those in the works) and to Michael Cina for bringing the visual heat every week. These mixes are built to be evergreen so go back if you missed any. If any mixes or songs move you, drop a note or comment to the curator or artist, it'll make their day, I promise.

A good group of songs can change yr heart, and week after week I've been stunned by the display of taste and emotion.

A few things have stood out for me from this first round of playlists:

1. That music is perfect because it's how memories actually work...The stolen moment, the slant of light, the glance (00:54 on "Love Theme From Spartacus")

2. That music is boundless, you'll never reach the edges or the bottom, and it is replenished every day.

3. That the songs you know can become new again in the right hands, at the right moment.
